In June 2024, Telva magazine published a report on Gorka González, defining him as one of the most promising artisans in the current hat-making scene.
The article traces her career path: from her initial training in administrative management and graphic design to her decision to change course and dedicate herself fully to crafts. Her apprenticeship with master Txarli Alocén—a leading figure in the historic Basque hat-making tradition—was the turning point that marked the beginning of her career.
Telva particularly highlights the entirely handcrafted nature of each piece. Each hat requires between three and five days of manual work, from steam-molding the felt to the final finishing with leather sweatband and personalized details. The process includes in-depth conversations with each client to understand their personality, lifestyle, and even film references that might inspire the design.
The article also highlights the quality of the materials used: natural fibers such as rabbit, beaver, or antelope; Ecuadorian shawls for the summer Panama hats; leather from Ubrique; and international suppliers specializing in premium felts. Gorka has even begun incorporating cast silver details to give certain pieces a distinctive character.
One of the key moments that amplified their visibility was when Sara Carbonero shared a picture wearing one of their hats. Since then, figures like Elsa Pataky, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Nieves Álvarez, and Javier Rey have embraced their designs.
Beyond the celebrities, the article highlights the essence of the project: bespoke, designer pieces, built to last and with their own unique identity. Gorka currently continues working from his atelier in San Sebastián and is preparing for new challenges, including the launch of a ready-to-wear line and international expansion into markets such as Miami and Dubai.
A trajectory that confirms that craftsmanship, when executed with rigor and contemporary vision, can occupy the top positions in the current luxury landscape.
